Beginning January 1, 2012, all voters must present an ID, meeting the requirements below, containing the voter’s name and photograph, whether voting early or on Election Day.

Requirements for Voter Registration
- You must be a citizen of the United States
- You must be a resident of the State of Tennessee
- You must be eighteen (18) years old on or before the next election
- You must have no felony convictions, or have had your voting rights restored
There is a registration deadline before every election for people who have never been registered to vote in Smith County. If a person has already registered to vote in Smith County and needs to update their registration, that may be done no later than 5 days
before Election Day. Please see the Election Calendar for specific dates.

EARLY VOTING
Early voting is for every registered, qualified voter who lives in Smith County
Location – Smith County Election Office
ABSENTEE VOTING BY MAIL
Wednesday, December 7, 2011 thru Tuesday, February 28, 2012
Time period voters can request to vote absentee by mail. This includes voters who will be out of county, 65 year olds, students, hospitalized, ill, disabled etc.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Monday, February 6, 2012
Registrations by mail must be postmarked by February 6, 2012. We suggest you take the form to the post office to be hand stamped by 12:00 Noon on February 6th. Otherwise it may not be postmarked until February 7, 2012 which is after the deadline.
EARLY VOTING
Wednesday February 15, 2012 thru Tuesday February 28, 2012
Early Voting Hours will be 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday – Friday
Saturday – 8:00 am to 12:00 Noon
ELECTION DAY
Tuesday, March 6, 2012
Polls open at 7:00 am and close at 7:00 pm
